Steven Bauer

Born Esteban Echevarría Bauer, in Havana, Cuba, Steven is perhaps best known as Al Pacino’s sidekick “Manolo,” in Brian de Palma’s remake of “Scarface.” Spanish speakers are also likely to remember him as “Joe Peña,” in the 1977 Miami-based PBS series, “¿Qué pasa USA?” (when he was "Rocky" Echevarría).

Since those early days Steven has gone on to star in many films and television series, including Steven Soderbergh’s “Traffic,” Kevin Reynold’s “The Beast” and the NBC mini series “Drug Wars: The Camarena Story."

One of his most recent credits was Andy García’s “The Lost City,” where Ricardo was working as 1st AD and got a first hand glimpse of Steven at work. We were very impressed with his charisma and professionalism, and were quick to cast him as “Oscar.”

Ladrones y Mentirosos” proved to be a bit of a homecoming for Steven, as he lived in Puerto Rico for a brief period as a child, shortly after his family had left Cuba.
